The study of the night sky dates back to ancient times. The stars have been used for navigation and keeping time since long before the common era.

As such, it is one of the oldest forms of science with deep roots in cultures around the globe.

Explore this history section to learn more about how our understanding of some of the most basic elements of astronomy has changed over time. Why not look closer at some of the people who have changed the way we think about the universe and our place within it over the last few thousand years?
